Botswana Development Corporation Faces Scrutiny Over CEO’s Compensation
Government Official Pledges Investigation
The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) is currently under public and parliamentary scrutiny regarding the reported monthly salary of its Managing Director, Oteng Keabetswe. Joel Ramaphoi, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship, has committed to investigating claims that Keabetswe receives a monthly remuneration of P400,000.
This commitment follows concerns raised by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which has also questioned the BDC CEO’s overall competence. The PAC is seeking clarification on various aspects of the BDC’s operations and leadership.
Competence Questions Arise
The inquiry extends beyond just the reported salary figure. Lawmakers are also examining Keabetswe’s performance and suitability for the role, suggesting broader concerns about the BDC’s management effectiveness.
