Botswana First Lady Highlights Neglect of Boys, Urges Broader Empowerment

GABORONE, BOTSWANA – Botswana’s First Lady, Kaone Boko, has expressed concerns about the potential consequences of overlooking the needs of young boys. She cautioned that failing to invest adequately in their development could contribute to future societal challenges.

Boko articulated her views at the UNICEF Botswana CEOs Council for Child Rights Forum in Gaborone. She emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to youth empowerment, suggesting that neglecting boys could lead to negative outcomes such as violence and social marginalization.

Balancing Empowerment Efforts

The First Lady’s remarks underscored the need for a balanced strategy when addressing gender-specific empowerment initiatives. While acknowledging the critical importance of supporting girls, she advocated for parallel efforts to uplift boys, ensuring no segment of the youth population is left behind.
