Tariq Babitseng Poised to Lead COSAFA with Mandate for Reform
Tariq Babitseng, the current president of the Botswana Football Association, is on track to become the next leader of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA). With no opposing candidates registered for the May 17 elective assembly in Harare, Babitseng is set to assume the presidency unopposed.
A New Era for Regional Football
At 41 years old, Babitseng’s ascendance would make him the youngest president in COSAFA’s history. His anticipated leadership comes with a strong emphasis on implementing reforms designed to align the regional body with the standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.
Focus on Alignment and Development
Babitseng has articulated a vision for COSAFA that prioritizes adherence to international football governance principles. His stated commitment to reforms suggests a focus on modernizing the organization and enhancing its operational efficiency. This strategic alignment with CAF and FIFA frameworks could pave the way for increased development initiatives and improved football infrastructure across the Southern African region.
