Botswana Pursues Significant Agricultural Investment
Botswana is seeking a substantial loan from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The nation aims to secure P413 million (approximately USD 31.52 million) to bolster its agricultural sector, specifically focusing on livestock commercialization.
Project Aims for Rural Prosperity and Resilience
The proposed funding will support the Botswana Livestock Commercialization Project (BoLCoP). This initiative seeks to enhance rural incomes, improve climate resilience, and increase productivity within the small livestock sector across the country.
Nationwide Impact Expected
Documents released ahead of IFAD’s 146th Executive Board Session in December 2025 detail the project. The BoLCoP, finalized on November 19, 2025, outlines an ambitious nationwide program. It targets approximately 50,000 households, impacting an estimated 200,000 individuals.
Broad Implementation Strategy
Implementation of the project will occur across 20 districts, organized into four operational clusters. This structured approach aims to efficiently distribute resources and support to a wide range of communities.
