Air Botswana Seeks Damages from Former Pilot After Flight Cancellation
Air Botswana has initiated legal proceedings against a former captain, alleging his actions led to the cancellation of a Johannesburg-bound flight. The airline is seeking over P249,000 in damages, citing financial losses from re-bookings, passenger accommodation, and lost revenue.
Disrupting a Critical Route
On June 21, the scheduled flight to Johannesburg was canceled. The airline states this occurred because Captain Benedict Dumelang Gaborakanelwe, then an employee, did not report for his final assigned flight before his departure from the company.
Financial Fallout for the Airline
Air Botswana contends that the pilot’s absence directly resulted in significant expenditures. These include the cost of re-accommodating stranded passengers, providing hotel stays, and a loss of income from ticket sales for the affected service.
