The Manual Workers Union is preparing a legal challenge against the government’s proposal to establish a constitutional court. The union cites a lack of broad national consultation as a key concern.
Robert Rabasimane, the union’s deputy chief executive officer and a legal professional, announced the impending action during the 44th Delegates Conference 2025, which coincided with the organization’s 60th anniversary.
Constitutional Provisions at Heart of Dispute
Rabasimane indicated that the government’s current plans for a constitutional court may conflict with existing constitutional mandates. He highlighted that Botswana’s Constitution requires public consultation before implementing such significant changes.
