Botswana’s Export Sector Faces Significant Downturn
Botswana’s export figures experienced a substantial drop in August, driven primarily by a sharp decline in diamond exports. This downturn contributed to a notable trade deficit for the month.
Diamond Exports See Steep Drop
Diamond exports fell dramatically by 43.9% in August. This significant reduction in a key sector had a cascading effect on the country’s overall export performance.
Overall Exports Contract
Total exports for August 2025 were recorded at P5.1 billion, a 31.8% decrease from the revised P7.4 billion figure in July. This contraction in export volume contributed to a balance of trade deficit of P1.5 billion.
The latest statistics highlight a challenging period for Botswana’s export-oriented economy, particularly concerning its dominant diamond industry.
