Xita Designs Illuminates Paris Fashion Week with “Lwapeng” Collection
Botswana’s Xita Designs made a significant impression at this year’s Tranoï Paris Fashion Week. The brand debuted its latest collection, “Lwapeng: Returning Home,” among a global array of fashion innovators.
A Journey Through Belonging
Founder and creative director, Tuelo Ngwenya, shared insights into the collection’s inspiration. “Lwapeng,” which translates to “at home” in Setswana, represents more than a physical place. Ngwenya describes it as a state of being, a feeling of belonging and finding solace wherever one may be.
The collection draws inspiration from diverse elements. Ngwenya cited influences from traditional basket weaving techniques and the intricate architecture of African kraals. These elements are reinterpreted into contemporary silhouettes and textures.
Craftsmanship and Cultural Heritage
Xita Designs showcased its signature blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics. The collection featured hand-stitched detailing, locally sourced materials, and a vibrant color palette. These choices reflect Botswana’s rich cultural heritage while maintaining a sophisticated global appeal.
The brand’s participation in Tranoï Paris Fashion Week marks a notable achievement for Botswana fashion. It provides a platform for African design talents to reach an international audience and contribute to the global fashion dialogue.
