Lucara signs final contract for Karowe expansion

Lucara Paves Way for Karowe Mine’s Extended Future

Lucara Diamond Corp. has reached a significant milestone for its Karowe mine in Botswana. The company announced the signing of the final major contract for the Karowe Underground Project (UGP), moving closer to extending the mine’s operational lifespan.

Critical Contract Awarded for Underground Development

The contract, awarded to Group R Mining and Exploration Botswana, focuses on crucial underground lateral development. This work involves establishing connections between the mine’s production and ventilation shafts and the kimberlite orebody. This development is essential for accessing deeper diamond reserves.

Extending Karowe’s Operational Horizon

The Karowe UGP aims to transition the mine from an open-pit operation to an underground one. This strategic shift is designed to expand the mine’s lifespan well into the next decade, securing its future as a key diamond producer. Lucara states that this agreement marks a decisive step in achieving that objective.
