BURS slaps WUC with another P14 Million garnishee order

The Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) has issued a significant garnishee order of P14.5 million against the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC). This directive mandates WUC to re-route funds originally earmarked for a Smart Prepaid Water Meter contractor directly to the tax authority.

BURS exercised its powers under sections of both the Income Tax Act and the VAT Act to secure these outstanding tax liabilities. The order, dated December 9, 2025, formally designates WUC as an agent for the contractor in this matter.

Mandated Payments Detail

The garnishee order explicitly instructs WUC to immediately disburse an amount of P14,526,811.77. This substantial sum encompasses a range of overdue taxes, including Corporate Income Tax, Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Training Levy, and Value Added Tax. The core objective of this notice is to successfully recover these unpaid taxes from the contractor, utilizing WUC as the intermediary.
