Enhanced Security for New BDF Commander
General Mpho Churchill Mophuting, the new commander of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF), has reportedly been assigned an enhanced security detail. This move follows his official assumption of command on November 6, 2025.
Reports indicate that the standard close protection typical for BDF commanders has been augmented with three additional plainclothes officers. These officers are said to be drawn from the elite Ceremonial Guard Unit (CGU).
Role of the Ceremonial Guard Unit
The CGU generally handles presidential escorts, State House security, and VIP protection duties. Their reported deployment in a protective surveillance capacity for the BDF commander signifies a notable shift from their usual assignments.
This heightened security arrangement suggests that authorities are taking a proactive approach to potential security concerns surrounding the new commander.
